Over there, they can be as big of idiots as they want and there is nothing done about it. Had someone cussing a kid and calling him everthing under the sun a few years ago, bad enough that someone talked to one of the barneys over there, who laughed it off and said he'd watch it. Then of course he went to get a legion hotdog and didn't think twice about it. I dont care if they cuss adults, thats stupidity but thats life but when they are cussing/mocking kids its a problem. I dont understand where the seating problems are so horrible since if you go to Gate City, at least according to them, there isn't enough seating on the home side that they have to take half the visitors, if you're sitting intermixed anyways at home, whats the difference up there.

Biggest thing I think, you make it more of an 'atmosphere' by playing it at the college or somewhere like that. Wow someone gets to play at GC for a game, and that is different than playing there all year, how? Since there is neutral sites for the finals and for the region, think they need them for half state too. Otherwise you get situations where you play on fields that should not be hosting state playoff games. I do think Gate City could handle the game, but last I looked, Gate City is not the only team in the region. I know sometimes they think or feel they are but they aren't and thats part of being in a system where everybody gets a vote, its not made to make the blue devils happy.
Listen, This isn't complicated? Hell why even seed them? What is the point in having the #1 seed if you can't even play at home? You can call it stupidity or whatever you want but the fact is Gate City won their conference and beat Richlands and Bluefield. They had enough points to be the #1 seed. They should have been able to chose to play at home if they wanted.

I know you hate Gate City. That is fine. Most people do because Gate City has beat their ass over the years. That is what it comes down to. You may have a different opinion but Gate City has a legit Argument.... They were the #1 seed....

There it goes. I knew it would not be long before we got to hear how great Great City is and how they always beat everybody around here and they are the best and deserve to be worshiped.

No other school in the region has a problem with it, when GC is not the #1 seed we hear NOTHING about this like the way the GC folk cry and whine and complain.

The Region D principals vote for it, so your principal was involved in the process.

Its downright laughable that GC fans cry this much over having to play at UVAW, but when basketball season rolls around, NOBODY on here cries about having to go to play at VHS.

Basketball is just as important as football, no matter how much you want to fight it. If the top seeds dont get to host basketball, why should football be any different?

Oh, I know why. because GREAT CITY wants it that way. TOO ****IN BAD!! How bout that?

and i am from Powell Valley, the only team that can say in the 8 years we've beaten you just like youve beaten us. its not about jealousy like you Great City folk always think it is.

Clintwood was the #1 seed, they did not ***** and whine and moan and complain at all.
You know why? Because CW has class, dignity, and maturity. Three qualities GC has never shown when it comes to dealing with other schools.

With all the mess at GC, there is no way you should try and condemn UVAW. There is as much visitor seating at GC as their is at UVAW, because the GC fans think its funny to sit behind the opposing bench and cuss at HS kids and make fun of mentally challenged people.

    Re: GC vs Leb

I personally enjoy the double header for the Region championship, that's somewhat selfish maybe? The reason I got on here to begin with is to say that G.C. doesn't have as many GREAT fans as the town/community wants everyone to believe. If they did why were there just a few there to tell the kids they where proud of them when time expired on Saturday. If they where really fans they would have stayed even after Lebanon put the final score up. Wouldn't have had to say anything just that big presence would have told the kids they are proud, win, lose or draw. But NO they where worried about beating everybody out of town or getting to Walmart. True fans would have stayed to the end with this loss and any loss but evidently most of these people are only good time fans if your winning I'm with you team. If your losing I got other things to do!!!!!!!!!!

If GC hadn't had been the #1 seed, there wouldn't be a complaint from then, it'd be the exact opposite...the field wouldn't be an issue, seating or anything and they'd be rallying for a neutral site. I don't think any fan from there has a leg to stand on, they have some of the worse seating around here and the field sure isn't anything special. GC loses at GC, Wise or anywhere. I'm not the least bit convinced that "home field advantage" is really an advantage at all with Football around here, it's convenient sure, but the outcome would have still been the same. I don't get the *****ing before and definitely not after - this isn't all the fans, there's some on here that haven't really complained at all.

    Re: GC vs Leb

So every Principal voted to play at UVAW except GC's? And I have voiced my opinion several times on VHS hosting the Regions. It's a joke also. Why would PV, if they were the top seed in the Region have to travel to Bristol to possibly play VHS for the Region? Why did Castlewood have to travel to Bristol last season when they have an excellent facility to play in? I will defend ANY teams right to host as IMO they have earned it. If the higher seed doesn't mean **** then why even seed? Put 4-6-8 names in a hat and draw them out to pair the teams! And if the top seed, say PV for instance, wants to host at UVAW I'm all for it. They are the top seed and deserve to play at UVAW if they want.

And when GC isn't the #1 seed, we don't have a right to complain. The one that is getting screwed needs to complain.
"They (Miami) told me I wasn't big enough to play running back,'' said Ryan Williams with a snicker. "And they tried to offer me as an athlete or wide receiver."

Well R13, I think you are wrong there. I personally have never heard a GC fan want a game moved to a neutral site when an opponent was the higher seed. And we have been to a couple of crap holes to play over the years. But I have always felt the host (higher seed) has earned the right to play on their own field. And it's not the issue if "home field" works or not. The issue is what the kids have earned on the field.

But see I don't think that the players are complaining at all, I've never heard of one ever complain about it. Almost everyone I know that plays(from Burton and elsewhere) loved playing at UVAW and on that field, that's the only time most will be on a college field, they get that and would much rather play there than where they have at least 5 times during the season. It's just the fans that want it at home, that's all this is, IMO the players either 1) Don't care and just want to play football or 2) would like to play at UVAW. I don't think that the GC players nor any players around here think their fans are that special that they help determine a game, it'd actually show more support if their fans traveled a little as opposed to walking/driving a 2 minutes to see them play.

    Re: GC vs Leb

Rock I do know about the idiots and that will soon come to a stop. We got ourselves a new Sheriff a couple years back and I promise you he will put his officers on the job.

Biggin I know Vol61 and he is actually a DB graduate that loves GC football. I also know you hate GC as much as DD does. I probably hate PV that bad.

As for whoever said you never hear GC complain about playing at Wise when they dont have the top seed. Well that is because we did not have the top seed therefore had no say in the matter. We only want the right to choose where we play if we earned it unlike others who support the whole watered down UVA Wise thing where all the seeds are rewarded. I dont know why the basketball site keeps coming up because I strongly feel the top seed in basketball should host no matter what size Gym they have. Also with basketball most all gym floors are made of the same material unlike the patch of concrete Wise calls a football field compared to the playing surfaces that the kids play on their whole season. When Wise gets their Field Turf it wont be so bad as Field Turf described by many has the same feel as Bermuda grass. Another problem with Wise are the goal posts. High School goal posts are 24 feet wide. Wise's posts are only 18 feet wide. Why should Region D be forced to play on a field with College goal posts when every other Region in the state plays on fields with High School goal posts? My biggest gripe at the momment is uniformity. I think if one Region chooses to force teams to play on a college field then all the Regions should have to. And from the last email I got from the VHSL they do agree and will be looking in to the matter. So next year things will be back to how it used to be or the rest of the state will be selecting neautral sites for a Region Title Game.

I know for a fact the GC players did not want to play there this year. I know in 07 PV was by far the better team and lost to GC at Wise. I would bet $100 had PV hosted that game they would have definately won. I dont know how but playing on that strange surface at Wise has made some very close games that would not been so close had it been played at least on grass or field turf. Lebanon was the only school to vote for the UVA Wise setup out of the CMD. The rest voted against it. GC was not alone in being against it. I would also bet as soon as Lebanon earns the #1 seed they will start crying foul if this crap continues in which I doubt it will now.

Nobody is whinning about anything. Leb was more talented and they won the game. Gate City overacheived all year. But they won the games they needed to win to be the #1 seed. And IMO if you do that you should be able to play at home. That goes for PV, Leb, whoever. This isn't basketball. This is football. It isn't the same as much as you would like to think that it is.

And hell Gate City would have been the #1 seed in basketball most years in this decade. So I really don't know why you keep talking about basketball.

It comes down to one thing. Does the seeding process mean anything? Not in this region. Not IMO. I mean the biggest advantage from being a #1 seed would be home field. That is no longer the case. So does the regular season mean anything anymore? Not much after you feel like you have made it in. IMO that is a bad thing. You may not feel that way. That is fine.

But the argument is legit. You might not agree but I would say the reason you don't agree is because you aren't going to be the #1 seed most years. At least that is the way it looks.

I do know there are going to be less votes for this. I don't know if there is going to enough to change it. But there is no doubt it takes away any advantage the higher seed had. Those kids won real games on the field to be the #1 seed. You can call me what you want classless, whatever. But to me those games should mean something.....
